    Unleash your creativity with Dialoogle

As far as we know, Visual Innovation is the first teaching and learning tool that systematically uses the ability of images to trigger creative thoughts, associate broadly and generate ideas – as well as to realise the ideas in an innovative process. To try out this unique concept use our complete teacher’s manual that enables you to guide your students through three phases:

    • The creative layer, where ideas flourish and develop.
    • The innovative layer, where students translate creative ideas into valuable and useful innovation by using their skills.
    • The entrepreneurial layer, where the best innovative ideas are prepared for implementation.

The concept can be used for innovative pedagogy in all subjects and at all grade levels. You can choose the package that suits your school.

    Innovation

    Innovation

Innovation is discovering, developing and applying new ideas in known workflows and processes. Give innovation a boost with images.

    Hjernen

    Brain

90% of the brain’s sensory input comes from visual sources. Images start thought tracks in the brain. If they cross each other in new combinations, new ideas emerge.

    Kreativitet

    Creativity

Creativity unfolds when we use imagery and try to combine different and seemingly independent motifs with each other.

    Purpose

The concept aims to develop children’s innovative and entrepreneurial competencies in parallel with their academic skills, and meet the growing demand for innovation and entrepreneurship in schools and educational institutions.

    Method

With the help of simple step-by-step exercises and ideas for innovative teaching, the curiosity, creative urge and desire among students to work with real life challenges are aroused. They learn to refine and prioritise the wealth of ideas they generate – and to implement the ideas that create value for themselves and others.

    The innovation process

The key to the innovation process is to find a good and relevant challenge for the students to work on. The purpose is to improve their skills. The Visual Innovation in School manual contains detailed descriptions of each step of the process – but there are no strict rules. Choose for yourself and use the tool as it works best for you. Hand-pick the parts of the manual and the exercises that best fit into your teaching. Only your own creativity sets the limits.

Create unique learning spaces where everyone can participate

All picture cards have a unique angle that opens up for reflection. They quickly create a comfortable and safe learning space where the mind can run free and everyone has something to offer.

Many children are afraid of failing. Therefore, it can be difficult for them to dare to express themselves during class. With Dialoogle cards the abstract becomes concrete, and that helps promote the resilience of children.

Do you want to know more?

    An exercise that kick-starts ideas

    Kick-start the ideas in plenary

You will need floor space for this exercise. It stimulates both the brain and the body, inspires competition and warms up students for creativity and visual innovation. Students who do not want to participate actively are allowed to simply observe.

    1. Ask the students to stand in a large circle, facing towards the centre.
    2. Based on the challenge, the students must now generate ideas.
    3. Throw a random picture card into the circle. The first one to get an idea runs into the middle, picks up the picture card and tells the others about it.  She/he keeps the card and return to her/his place in the circle.
    4. A new card is thrown in, and the process continues until 10-15 picture cards have been in play.
    5. Then, all students with a card in hand write their idea on an Idea Sheet and staple it together with their picture card. All cards with Idea Sheets are placed in the Idea Bank.
    6. Now you ask all students to look at the picture cards in the Idea Bank. Those who had an idea but did not reach the middle of the circle first – or perhaps did not want to – now get the opportunity to add their ideas to the cards. If additional ideas arise in the meantime, these are also written on the Idea Sheets.

    Ideas for challenges and projects

It goes for all Visual Innovation projects in school that they must clearly define the framework for developing ‘ideas’ on how the students can use their ‘educational skills’ to ‘create value’ for others. It is a good idea to involve others in the innovative process. Some examples:

MATHEMATICS: “How can we teach our parents to solve equations?”
HISTORY: “Prepare a tour of the local museum for your parallel class.”
FOREIGN LANGUAGES: “Plan an introductory course in French for new learners in lower grades.”
SPORTS: “How do children obtain a healthier lifestyle in our community?”
NATIVE LANGUAGE: “Create an integrated plan for promoting grammar skills in all grades and subjects at this school.”
BULLYING-FREE CLASS: “How do we avoid bullying in our class?”
THE SCHOOL OF THE FUTURE: “Create the school of the future.”
HEALTHY SCHOOL: “Make your school healthier.”
PROJECT WEEK ABOUT BEAUTY: “What is a beauty ideal, and how has it changed over time? What affects young people’s beauty ideal today, and what do young people do to live up to it? What role does the media play? ”

Experience with Visual Innovation in school

An easy boost to innovative thinking in school

Jesper Storm Nørskov is one of the authors behind the Visual Innovation in School concept – and a dedicated practitioner of innovative pedagogy. He was awarded the Pioneer Award by the Danish Ministry of Education for his innovative methods to incorporate real life into his teaching. Here’s an example:

Jesper gives his 7th grade class a project assignment called ‘The world is changing’. How to deal with it? There is complete silence in the class. – Jesper takes his students down to the large school hall, where all students meet every morning. The hall is empty. What is about to happen now?

Jesper asks the students to place themselves in a big circle. Then he throws a picture card into the middle of the circle and says: “The first one of you to get an idea of what kind of ‘world’ we should look at puts his foot on the picture and tells us about the idea.”

Silence – but only for a few seconds. Then the first idea is presented. Now Jesper throws new picture cards into the circle, one by one. Once a student has presented an idea, she/he holds on to the card. Everyone has woken up and is prepared to take part now. Ideas are coming fast: The global world. My own world. The world of organised crime. The football world. – It has become a competition to come first.

Along the way, Jesper asks questions to picture cards so that the students can stretch their thoughts and unfold their ideas. But they only get a short time to do it in order to prevent doubts as to whether the ideas are good.

Energy levels are rising steadily and ideas are flourishing. After 20 minutes, several students have two or three picture cards. Work on the project assignment is in full swing.

“It’s fun to stimulate children’s creativity because once a picture has started a train of thought, it is not possible to say where it will end,” says Jesper.

What is the difference between Pocket and Magnum cards?

Pocket and Magnum are two different sizes. Pocket cards measure 9×9 cm, and Magnum cards 19×19 cm. All Editions and Faces are available in both Pocket and Magnum sizes. The Pocket cards are particularly suitable on the table for one-on-one talks and in small groups. The Magnum size is well suited for use on the floor when you work with larger groups and everyone must be able to see the pictures. You may also use the Magnum cards in one-on-one dialogues if you prefer to walk around while you talk. Pocket and Magnum sizes can be used in combination to create new visual reflections in the search for pictures. You can also use the Pocket cards for adding details, new ideas etc. to a Magnum card.
