Overview

A boost to job satisfaction surveys

The exercise takes about an hour with 10 participants. You will need one Magnum Set, 10 post-it blocks and 10 pens.

  1. Lay out a Magnum Set on the floor and ask the participants to choose a card that illustrates something that gives them job satisfaction at present.
  2. Let the participants pair up and take turns telling each other about their card. While one is talking, the other writes down keywords from the explanation on a post-it note.
  3. When the first participant has finished talking, the pair attach the post-it to the picture card and change roles.
  4. Once both participants have presented, they lay out all the used picture cards in a row as art works.
  5. The participants go back to the rest of the Magnus Set and choose a new card representing a potential for creating renewed job satisfaction at the workplace in the future.
  6. Ask the participants to make new pairs – and repeat the process.
  7. When everyone has finished talking, they place their second picture card below the first one and the exibition is ready.
  8. Now you gather the group around the exibition and let everyone present their card.
  9. When the presentations are over, you take a photo of each participant´s two cards with the attached keywords.
  10. Print these photos and let them circulate the next time the group meets to discuss concrete improvements of the job satisfaction at your workplace.

The picture cards can become an even more engaging tool when accompanied by music.

Brain

90% of the brain’s sensory input comes from visual sources. Images start thought tracks in the brain. If they cross each other in new combinations, new ideas emerge.

Creativity

Creativity unfolds when we use imagery and try to combine different and seemingly independent pictures with each other.
