Dialoogle at Nordic Council of Ministers’ Conference

Pernille Berg is team leader for research, analysis & further education at the Danish Foundation for Entrepreneurship. She used Dialoogle to close the gap between entrepreneurial theory and practice at a large-scale conference for Nordic teachers, school leaders and political decision makers.

Dialoogle at Nordic Council of Ministers’ Conference

Dialoogle was put to use to ensure that participants could return home and start promoting the entrepreneur culture right away when more than a hundred school leaders, teachers and political decision makers from the Nordic countries met to launch a new Nordic competency framework for entrepreneurship in schools. The Danish minister for Children, Education and Gender Equality topped the speakers’ list at the conference organised by the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Danish Foundation for Entrepreneurship (DFE).

On arrival participants were asked to choose a picture card that illustrated their understanding of entrepreneurship, and use the card for introducing themselves to other participants.

Facilitator at the conference Pernille Berg from DFE says:

”It was my job to make sure that participants acquired new knowledge and inspiration, and that the conference proceeded smoothly. It can be challenging to have a busy minister scheduled in the programme. This time we had to deal with a delay. But it never became critical because everybody was lively occupied talking to each other about their cards, and I just let them continue having fun until the Minister arrived.”

The participants kept their cards, and after a number of presentations and workshops Dialoogle came into play again.

”The goal of this conference was to enable participants to return home with a lot of hands-on ideas for boosting entrepreneurship teaching in their schools and municipalities,” Pernille says.

”We laid out Magnum cards all over the floor, and after being carpet-bombed with new information participants were asked to reflect on how they could close the gap between entrepreneurship strategy and practice. In addition to the card they had chosen on arrival, they were supposed to find new cards to illustrate the most important actions to be taken. In groups of three people, preferably with different backgrounds, participants were now given the task to agree on three important actions, write them down on an A3 sheet of paper, and hang it on a clothesline along with an illustrative picture card. We ended up by having 30-40 sheets with inspirational suggestions on the clothesline, ready to take home and use.”

“Over time I have used many different tools for facilitation. Dialoogle both engages and motivates participants and is among the best. Being the host of this conference, Dialoogle also worked well for me because I was able to keep participants focused during the processes, which is an enormous strength in a facilitation tool. As for the participants, they were curious about the cards, enjoyed using them and were able to create a lot of good and useful ideas. And last, but not least: the organisers of the conference were happy and extremely satisfied about how Dialoogle contributed to making the conference a success for everybody,” Pernille concludes.
